Overview
The Hunter The Party first met in Snowport. He offered to help them get to the Golden Fort safely in exchange for the 20% of the gold the party earned from the raid. There seems to be more to him than meets the eye. For example, when Halfbie was copying a spell into their spell book they made a small error and despite having only just learnt the very fundamentals of magic, he was able to point out the mistake.
Description
Personality
He is a very gruff and stern man who doesn't want to talk very often. He also doesn't like to to talk or explain himself, adding to the party's suspicions that he is more than he lets on.

| Session 55 | From inside the Tiny Hut, Halfbie watched the whole scene as they held their hands up to their face like looking through a frosted window. Aiden, who was sitting down near his bags, whittling some wood, was the only one to notice that Ringo was nowhere to be seen. When he finally pointed this out to Halfbie, worried for a sec that Ringo might have abandoned them, espailly has his pack and bow were missing. Halfbie quickly cast the spell Locate object, assuming that a seasoned hunter would never be caught without his bow. Their hunch was correct, as the bow was found relatively close by and wasn't moving further away from the Tiny Hut. |
| Session 55 | Mordecai could not believe what was happening as their mind tried to process their experience in the void. They tried to make a witty remark, but all that came out was a single scream as their mind slowly unravelled. The zombie let go of Mordecai, also confused about what was happening. it stumbbled back and right into the sword of Ringo, who had snuck past everyone to land the killing blow. "Someone had to end it, and i'd didn't think it would be you lot" |
| Session 55 | Everyone nodded; it was true they were having too much fun. They soon all returned to the tiny Hut, where Ringo began building a fire to cook some food. Mordecai also explained their sense of foreboding and their need to eat gold coins. Halfbie donated some coins from the share account purse. When that wasn't enough, they melted down some more coins and turned them into a milkskae for Mordecai, who happily drank it down. This still wasn't enough, so halfbie was called a 'Coin Shandy' by mixing some of Drache's beer with molten gold. This wasn't enough, and now Mordecai was slightly drunk as it went immediately to their head. However, it did help with their panic attack. |
| Session 55 | Aiden hid his bag of gold, and Viktor had none to speak of. Ringo's food was ready; it was more 'deer'. They all ate some meat. Viktor took his meat basically raw, something Ringo did without even being asked. Drache went in for seconds and soon found the meat almost addictive; Ringo was glad to give him more food. |
| Session 54 | The battle fractured into a symphony of chaos. Three desperate fights unfolded simultaneously: Mordecai stood alone before the hulking giant. Drache's battle axe wove a desperate perimeter against two stalking shadows. At the same time, across the field, Aidan and Ringo danced with a pair of their own. Viktor, beset by three, fought for each breath. From behind the gnarled bark of a snow-covered tree, Halfbie watched, their physical form hidden as their manifest mind and Eldritch Cannon extended their will into the fray. |
| Session 54 | Seizing a moment, Ringo broke away, and Aidan vanished into a distraction. Their two assailants, now without prey, turned their icy blades on Viktor, cutting him down. The sight was a trigger. With a roar that ignored all tactical sense, Drache charged to his ally's defence, weathering two brutal strikes meant to stop him. The stalkers swarmed, encircling the doctor and the barbarian in a tightening ring of steel. |
| Session 54 | While his companions drowned in the tide, Mordecai wielded a subtler weapon. A whispered Suggestion slithered into the giant's mind. The massive creature blinked, its club slipping from numb fingers to thud against the earth. Unopposed, it began a slow, ponderous retreat. From behind the tree, Halfbie's cannon spat a pulse of mending energy toward Drache and Viktor, even as their magic lashed the stalkers. Ringo's shot whistled through the air, felling a stalker, and it stayed down. No unnatural reanimation. A clue, lost in the desperation. |
| Session 54 | The tide began to turn, but at a grisly price. Stalkers fell, their unnatural animation finally spent, but they dragged Drache and then Viktor back into darkness with them. Mordecai and Ringo were next, shattered by the giant's returning club. Silence, thick and heavy, fell, broken only by the ragged breaths of Aidan. He stood alone, blade trembling but raised, against a giant and figures who refused to die. |
| Session 54 | The party let them off the hook, but still exchanged annoyed glances amongst themselves. Viktor beckoned the boy over to the corpses to analyse it. One of them still had the arrow that Ringo had shot into it. Viktor pulled it out and, after a brief inspection, found nothing out of the ordinary apart from the metal being much shinier than he would expect from the typical Iron used arrows. Halfbie also couldn't come up with anything new, so they joined Ringo, who had constructed a campfire to help warm everyone up. |
| Session 54 | Sitting down cross-legged, Halfbie began to chant and, after a few minutes, summoned Leomand's Tiny Hut. The forcefield instantly surrounded them, helping capture the heat. Ringo was astounded and commented that he had never experienced such luxury. Halfbie smiled, " We like to treat our workers well", before lying down and reading their book. |
| Session 54 | Ringo, for his part, retrieved the meat that smelled suspiciously like steak from his patch and began to grill it. Viktor took the meat prematurely and started eating it. It was essentially a raw meeting, and when questioned, he said he likes his meat rare. |
| Session 54 | Between mouthfuls of raw meat, he asked Ringo about the arrow he pulled from the deathless clan. Ringo was incredibly cagey about the details, simply stating that it was 'Hunter's metal' and that only members of the Hunter's society could get them. |
| Session 54 | Viktor nodded and signalled for Mordecai to set up private communication with the other members of the party. He explained that he was fearful that, if the hunter society was the only group capable of making arrows that could kill the deathless clan, it must mean they had tremendous influence in the region. Everyone agreed it would be a good idea to keep an eye on Ringo and learn more about the situation. |
| Session 54 | Viktor was about to take another bite before asking Ringo if this was Human meat, and they weren't bein' cannibals by eatin' it. The question filled Ringo with rage as he screamed, "the fuck you think i am?!" |
| Session 53 | Drache began leaving the room to find the others; the explosions Drache was hearing in the distance were almost definitely from the rest of the party. Opening the creaky wooden door, Drache quickly found the frantic Viktor. When Viktor saw Drache, Viktor jumped at him, leaving the dragonborn to catch Viktor, something Drache had become surprisingly adept at with other members of the party. Once Viktor was safely put down from Drache's princess carry, Drache explained what Drache had been up to, and the Hunter's offered to safely take the party through the woods. Viktor agreed that this was a great opportunity, but they should check on the other. |
| Session 53 | After a brief explanation of how they got to be as they were, Drache informed the last remaining members of the party about the Hunter 's offer. Both of them thought it was a great idea. So they started making their way back down. Victor used Thunderstep to reach the Tavern quickly so he could get warm and eat a little. Along the way, Mordecai and Halfbie began fighting in a way that reminded Drache of two kids fighting, with one accusing the other of something and the other retorting with mockery. |
| Session 53 | Eventually, they made it back to the Tavern, and upon seeing Drache return, the Hunter pulled a chair up to an empty table and gestured for the rest ot join him. As they walked over, Halfbie and Mordecai used their magics to clean themselves up and make themselves look a bit more presentable. At the same time, Drache went to the bar to grab them both a beer. |
| Session 53 | As the Hunter watched them all clean themselves off, he whispered, "Bloody foreigners" under his breath, something that all but Drache heard. None addressed it, caring more about hearing the man out rather than his boring racism. He began making his case as they sat down. They all agreed it was a fair deal, especially since we knew about the golden fort. He confirmed this, but stressed that he would not engage with the raid itself and would try his best to help with some of the planning. He admitted that he only worked as a guard for the front gates that opened for the boats, so the inner workings of other parts of the fort weren't very well known to him. |
| Session 53 | They cheered their drinks to confirm the deal before halfbie mentioned that, before heading off, it would be good for them to get some sleep and rest up after their fight with the zombies in the forests. At hearing this, the Hunter 's ears pricked up. |
| Session 53 | Halfbie took their time to explain the encounter they had earlier. the Hunter explained that they were a known entity, most likely cursed a long time ago. Many Hunters in the area had become quite good at fighting back and even learnt how to kill them most effectively. It was now halfbie's turn to become interested, as they enquired as to how to kill them. the Hunter explained that if you killed/ damaged their bodies enough, then soon they wouldn't get up again, and they would stay down. |
| Session 53 | "Still..." the Hunter pondered, "Strange to see them come so close to Snowport..." His thoughts trailed off as he rubbed his chin. |
| Session 53 | Sitting back down, halfbie asked if, before they left, the Hunter could help them hunt down two deer to give to the shopkeeper at Halo's emporium. Upon mentioning the incident, mordecai could no longer look halfbie in the eye out of shame. After some prodding, Mordecai explained the situation to the group, leaving Drache trying his best not to laugh. |
| Session 53 | the Hunter, seeing that this would stop them from leaving as soon as possible, stood up, placed large hunks of meat on the table, and said they could have it if they went first in the morning. When asked if the beef was dear, the Hunter just shrugged, saying "sure". |
| Session 53 | Halfbie awoke earlier than usual, like a child on Christmas Day. They were simply unable to contain their excitement for their new scrolls. They grabbed their spellbook and opened it at the table the Hunter sat at and began their calculations. Between furious scriblings of halfbie's summoned quill, the Hunter looked at halfbie and asked them to explain what they were doing and how it worked. |
| Session 53 | Halfbie's explanation was cut short as the Hunter pointed at one of Halfbie's long calculations and simply pointed out an error to them. Halfbie's whole existence shook for a moment as they looked down and immediately spotted a mistake. It was a fundamental mistake that only a novice would make, which only seemed to worsen the situation. |
| Session 53 | Halfbie, cauatioly thanked the Hunter for pointing out their mistake before continuing to write the new spells into their book. Once everything was ready, the party packed their things and began to head out for the golden fort. the Hunter guided them through the forest. Before leaving, he insisted that the party obey every order he gave without question. Mordecai shot a point glare at Halfbie, who, for their party, sheeishly said they would do their best to curb their curiosity. After the rest of the party said yes, the Hunter sighed, knowing this would be the best he was going to get. |
| Session 53 | Walking through a large clearing in the snowy forest, the Hunter suddenly stopped, signalling to the rest of he party to do the same. He suddenly "Get down!" before hiding away in the snow and foliage. Drache, Mordecai and Aiden followed suit. Halfbie and Viktor, however, panicked and were unable to hide themselves properly. Both grabbed branches that were likely covered their hands in an attempt to blend in. It didn't work. |
| Session 53 | The party fought the cursed hunters and the giant. With all the cursed hunters invisible, the party focused on the giant, buffing Drache to increasingly high levels with spells like Haste and Enlarge/Reduce. the Hunter tried his best to gain some distance but kept getting surrounded by the cursed hunters. |
| Session 52 | Approaching one of the hunters, he asked if they could tell him about navigating through the forests around Snowport. The Hunter explained that if you wanted to travel, there were two options: walk along the coast and risk being robbed by the golden fleet, or walk through the forest. However, without a knowledgeable guide, they wouldn't last more than a day before they got lost and died, or were 'attacked by the...wildlife' |
| Session 52 | The hnter called to the bartender, asking for a private room to talk for a moment. The man behind the bar nodded to a small side room they could use. The Hunter beckoned him inside, holding the door open for Drache. Once inside, with the door closed, the hunter drew a dagger, pointing it at the dragonborn. |
| Session 52 | The Hunter's knife wavered for a second. The shock proved too great as he slammed the knife on a table and sat with his head in his hands for a moment. |
