Overview
Xekai is a mysterious underworld magic user and a former member of an organisation known as The Auditors. He seems to have some form of plan for The Party but is unwilling to explain what it is. He was first introduced to The Party in Blackwall when they snuck into the councillor's offices to learn secrets that could help them in their quests. He was already in the office when they found him, looking through documents for reasons he refused to reveal. He didn't stick around long before opening a portal and escaping.
Notable Information
- Xekai is known to be a big authority within The Dawn Empire's military, even foot soldiers know his wax seals and pay great respect to them.
- He helped arrange for Steve's prison break, sending The Black Dragon to help them escape.
- He is revealed to not be a morning person.
- Much later Obeus Yelris found him when they were trapped in The Pyramid, he opened a portal to help them escape the collapsing pyramid. He seemed pleased that they finally dealt with the pyramid even though they were "behind schedule". Much to The Party's dismay he refused to elaborate on what his plan was or anything else. Notably, when Kal The Korrigan † asked him about Ebis Daro and Akin Netch ‡ he got incredibly angry at even the mention of Akin.
- Chenris Tallfellow ‡ later asked if he was unwilling to explain anything because that's what The Auditors told him to do he said no.
- When korrigan asked him, "Do you take orders from The Auditors?" he told them that was not the case
History & Mentions

| Session 49 | Chenris admitted he felt the same, almost a brotherly connection to the man. They both pondered in silence before Halos handed over the bag of gold. The man then turned to leave. Chenris offered some help, but Halos was fine, as some kind man made purple portals in the corridor to help everyone get home. |
| Session 45 | Before the two could even begin to panic, a grand door opened, and two figures walked in. One was covered in his usual robes, which the party had recognised instantly, and the other bore the crown of Lost Haven. A flicker of hope crossed Mordecai's eyes as they recognised Xekai. |
| Session 45 | Both confidently entered the room, engaging in friendly chatter. Upon entering, Xekai instantly locked eyes with Mordecai and Halfbie, but quickly moved on to the rest of the room, commenting, "I see you've got a few more since last time." |
| Session 45 | Malachi replied with an enthralled smile, excitedly pointing to some of his new favourites in the collection. He gestured at a few, including Slyva, who seemed to have a defiant look on her face. Mordecai tried to use the dispel magic spell by subtly spelling it; however, the antimagic field appeared already active. In fact, from their vantage point, it seemed like Xekai was actively trying to ignore them, whether he could hear them or not. |
| Session 45 | Xekai and Malachi sat at a grand table in the heart of the room. It was, too, made of solid gold. Malchai poured him a cup of tea. Genturing to Halfbie and Mordecai, he explained that they were the most recent ones; he caught them a few hours ago messing with Sara. |
| Session 45 | Mordecai suddenly realised that while the antimagic field was active, it hadn't been for long enough to be at full power, allowing them to use the message spell. They tried to message Xekai, but still refused to reply or even react [^1]. The two talked about a range of topics around politics until the topic eventually turned to the rebellion, where Xekai said, "We'll have to quell this rebellion as soon as possible. I recommend sending all your guards straight into the quarters." Malachi nodded in approval, and once they finished their team, they began leaving the room. |
| Session 45 | Mordecai's anger had reached a boiling point watching the two be so friendly and then get up to leave. Even though they knew none could hear them, they still sneered, "you're a coward Xekai" |
| Session 45 | Malachi stopped in his tracks, the air around him becoming very tense. He turned to Xekai and asked, "How does the Tiefling know your name?" The silence was deafening in the room before it was broken with a long, exasperated sigh from Xekai. Before anyone could react, he turned on the spot and punched Malachi in the stomach. The force was enough to make the king vomit before passing out. |
| Session 45 | He then slammed the doors shut and marched over to Mordecai and Halfbie. "For fucks sake, my cover has been blown in another place." Mordecai timidly asked for help, and Xekai scratched his neck as he inspected their golden forms. He muttered that there wasn't much he could do here, opened a portal beneath them, and jumped in after them. |
| Session 45 | Halfbie and Mordecai awoke in an ornate-looking room filled with paper and books in stacks that reached the ceiling. The Healing Halfling stood over them, doing her best to fix their golden bodies. It seemed she had already fixed their heads, allowing them to look around and talk. Xekai sat in the corner watching the scene with a clumb expression. Mordecai awkwardly said, "I thought we were goners. Um, thank you. Sorry about earlier...Nice digs." |
| Session 45 | Xekai finally spoke up, "We don't have much time. You've got to go back down there in a sec." |
| Session 45 | Xekai simply stated that they had to return and help the rest of the party as best they could. Mordecai suggested that the Auditors could help them in their fight, but Xekai said it would interfere too much. Chenris butted in, sarcastically asking if pulling them out of the golden room was interfering too much. |
| Session 45 | "Well, I didn't try to take you out for a friend room, did I?" argued Xekai. But Someone had to mess up the plan again. I would've freed you eventually." Mordecai stared straight at the ground, unable to meet the man's eyes. |
| Session 45 | Halfbie then asked, "So are you friends with all the rulers of nations then?" Xekai simply remarked that they were a very powerful group. |
| Session 45 | "We're not friends." Xekai replied glumly, "We're more like... work colleagues." |
| Session 45 | Their bodies soon returned to normal, and Xekai quickly stood up, telling them that it was time for them to return to the fight. He gave them a set of bows and daggers before opening a portal under them back to Lost Haven. |
| Session 39 | After the events of the previous night, the party leisurely walked the winding path back to Fairset Port. Xekai, looking for a pleasant distraction from his work, decided to join them. It was either from exhaustion or shock that Xekai stuck around after one of his random appearances. Still, Korrigan was at a loss for words but expressed his excitement at Xekai's presence nonetheless. Xekai chuckled lightly as if he were a headteacher with a young student eager to meet him. |
| Session 39 | Suddenly remembering the opportunity they had, Korrigan inquired about how Emmeline and Bruce were doing. Drache quickly chimed in with his concern for his girlfriend's safety. Xekai dismissively assured them that both were fine and currently out roaming the world, helping people. He did stress that they were swamped with work, which was why they hadn't had the time to check in with the party. |
| Session 39 | Xekai mentioned that he was also swamped, explaining that he had a "very strict schedule." However, he refused to elaborate when Halfbie questioned him about what that schedule entailed. Too exhausted to press further, Halfbie chose instead to focus on pushing the recent events from their minds. |
| Session 39 | Xekai then reminded them that their ultimate destination was Lost Haven. When Korrigan asked eagerly about what would happen there, Xekai ominously replied that it would be "interesting" when they all arrived. |
| Session 39 | Halfbie, too exhausted to care, casually asked Xekai what he did in his free time. Taken aback by the non-world-threatening question, Xekai sarcastically replied, "Laughing at you lot?!" |
| Session 39 | Half-jokingly, Drache inquired, "Not even a drink at the pub?" The mention of drinks reminded Xekai of their discovery that Fey's blood acted as a drug for vampires. He then asked if he wanted to try it. Xekai politely refused, citing his lack of vampirism. |
| Session 39 | Halfbie, unable to think clearly, began to panic, fearing they might be a vampire because they could drink the blood. Xekai paused for a moment before saying to himself, "Oh yeah, that would kind of make sense, I guess," and then reassured Halfbie, much to their relief, that they weren't vampires and would be fine after some rest. |
| Session 39 | Xekai refused, stating it would be too much of an overreach and that he should return to work. Slightly disappointed, Drache insisted it would be fine and that nobody would know if Xekai decided to go. The offer would still stand. Xekai dismissively declined but thanked the barbarian for the offer before opening his usual purple portal. Behind him lay a vast field of wheat, which he quickly entered, closing the portal behind him. |
| Session 38 | Each of the large and luxurious plates of food was 'eaten.' The vampires explained that Halfbie was now acting almost like an Egg for their God and implied this was only possible because the Skyward Barrier had weakened. Once the food was all eaten, the women opened up a large black portal, similar to the ones Xekai made. On the other side, a very confused tavern could be seen. Much to Mordecai's dismay, Halfbie began walking to the portal. They tried to tell them to reconsider their actions, but Halfbie rebutted, saying that if they wanted to, the vampires could've killed them by now, but they hadn't. The women explained that although they wished for their God, they wanted to do it without their friend dying. Halfbies and women soon walked through the portal, followed quickly by the rest of the vampires and the Party. |
| Session 27 | Korrigan turns to the rest of The Party and tells them to stay put before confronting the dragon. Mordecai and drache ignore him and run out to join him. Mordecai exclaims that they both did stupid things in the past to face this together. The dragon lands in front of them and commands them to explain why they would want to travel to such a remote island. Mordecai replies in Draconic, saying that they wanted to come and speak to it. Korrigan explains that they know Terathra and know that Uti † was the last person to talk to Terathra. Uti stares at them before narrowing their eyes at Mordecai. "You touched the crown, didn't you?" it said question. Mordecai apologises for doing so, as they had no idea. Uti explains that they can not let anyone leave the island because of that. Shocked, Mordecai tries to sacrifice himself to allow the others to leave. The rest refuse to let this happen, with Korrigan exclaiming that Uti will kill one; they must destroy all of them as if they were a meal deal. Before anything else can happen, Xekai appears from a portal and uses some strange magic to freeze everyone but Mordecai on the spot with a large sigh. Uti explains that everyone here has to die, as coming onto this island is enough of a threat to the world. Mordecai claims they have enough audacity that they can't get through this, and nothing terrible will happen and swears on everyone's life. Uti exclaims that swearing on these lives means everyone must fight them to the death, and either way - the Gods do not work like that. Xekai unfreezes everyone before going back through the portal. |
| Session 27 | Korrigan exclaims that if they die anyway, Uti may as well answer some of their burning questions. The dragon allows this to happen and asks what their first question is. He asks if they still must be killed if they decide to stay on the island. Uti says no. They had signed a contract that said no one could enter or leave the island, or they would die. Korrigan then asks why about Sword of Whispers and what they're doing on the island. Uti explains that their primary purpose is to defend the sword, which has a terrifying power. This leads Halfbie to make the connection between the sword and Firesoul Greatsword. They next talk about Terathra and the pillars, and Uti explains that their name is Niaross † and that they had to sell their dear friend with the pillars to make sure that the Gods were stopped. They also confirm that Terathra is slowly dying. Halfbie asks how they know Xekai. Uti reveals it's through The Auditors and that they have been working together for quite a while. Korrigan asks if Ebis Daro and Akin Netch ‡ are related. Uti has no idea who Ebis is but knows Akin from working together for a long time. Mordecai asks that if Xekai knew they were going to be killed, then why didn't he warn them of coming here? Uti reveals that Xekai has been incredibly busy of late and wasn't aware that they were on their way - Uti refuses to elaborate on what he has been doing. Korrigan asks if Uti has killed Master Enel Cubus; the dragon confirms that Cubus is dead. With this, Uti grows tired of asking questions and tells them to get ready for a fight. |
| Session 27 | Korrigan calls out to Xekai, furious that something like this had to happen and could have been avoided if the man wasn't so cryptic. Xekai appears and freezes them in place with the same magic as before. He looks at Uti and then The Party in dismay and exclaims that they better know what they are doing before stepping back into his portal. Behind him, they can see inside where a black dragon (possibly Kazzin) alongside the Healing Halfling and numerous other people hugely talking over papers. The portal soon closes, leaving Korrigan fuming. |
| Session 27 | They began by asking, 'How can we stop what is coming?'. Uti's body slowly came to life as it explained that there isn't a chance to stop what will happen now that it is in effect, especially with towers falling and the sword free. Their second question: 'How did you learn to seal Terathra?'. Uti explained that it was a method theory by the Dwarves long ago. Their third question: 'What are there options to seal Gods?'. Uti explains that the only other way was through The Ancient Pillars. However, they weren't powerful enough to contain the full power of the Gods. Their fourth question: 'Can we trust Xekai?'. Uti explains, "Xekai does more for you than you will ever know. Why do we think The Ethertwist Haunter has left you alone for so long? Why haven't you had as much trouble? Maybe someone has been going ahead and dealing with big threats. Xekai cares for you like a farmer cares for a lamb being sent to the slaughter; he sees you as his best shot at winning. Xekai has a lot on his plate, and you are at the top of his priorities. The Auditors don't think this should be so." Finally, the fifth question: 'Where is The Auditor's Headquarters?'. Uti explains they had a tower south of The Great Wall in The Desert. With that, Uti's corpse becomes quiet. |
| Session 27 | The person on the left seemed to be Xekai, and the dragon on the left seemed familiar, but The Party weren't sure where from. The man in the middle was presumably Akin Netch ‡. the dragon on the right is Uti, and the Harengon also looks familiar, but no one was sure where from. Near the fireplace was a large grate with holes and bars on it. In the box was a large fox with wings cowering in the corner. Korrigan immediately left the creatures out, leading to it rushing out and doing circles around the room like it was looking for someone. Korrigan asks who they're looking for. The fox explained that they were searching for their master: a large red dragon. Korrigan then asks what the fey creature is doing here, all locked up from the world. The fox says it wasn't being held there against its will; it's just nice and warm at the fireplace, and they're prone to getting lost. The fox introduces itself as Bit and lands on Korrigan's horns to perch there. |
| Session 26 | Looking at the airship in more detail, Halfbie starts to remember weird visions of cults and needing to save people. Once hearing this, korrigan immediately comes up with a theory that maybe the crystal chatting from the magic of magic wave could have caused Chenris' and Halfbie 's memories to somehow fuse together, explaining the weird pockets of knowledge they have. Throughout this whole process, Mordecai is notably hesitant to call Chenris by name, referring to them as 'you know' or 'the old man'. With little to garner from the wreckage, they decided to head back to Rosehost since it was getting late. Before getting back into his carriage, korrigan took one last good luck at the scene, but more importantly, he was also looking for Xekai. Korrigan had some questions for the man, and he was angry he hadn't gotten them already. |
| Session 25 | Suddenly a purple flame appears in the hand of a man wearing a black mask illuminating him in the dark to the party. Korrigan instantly greets him "Hi Xekai!" But the masked figure has no idea who that is and simply asks if they are aware that they are trespassing in the palace of Dawnhaven. Mordecai accuses them of doing the exact same thing. Before the man replies, he clicks his fingers and behind him, Galen Verix ‡ appears kneels by his side and calls the masked man Master. Korrigan can quickly tell that something is controlling him. The man says that they have no idea what he is doing, for all they know, he is trying to save Dawnhaven for the world. Mordecai attempts to cast Dispel Magic but it fails instantly. The man pats Galen on the head and tells him to go back to bed, Galen immediately walks back to bed in a daze. |
| Session 25 | The man explains that he was originally planning to kill them but it is fortuitous that they have appeared as he needs someone to run an errand for him. Mordecai's eyes narrow in distrust while korrigan casts Protection From Good And Evil on Drache just in case something happens to them all. The masked man continues, stating that if they don't help him then they will be killed instantly. Looking at him carefully, Chenris understands that this man is at least 2 to 3 times stronger than Xekai and warns the party that he is not bluffing when he says that. The man wants them to sign a contract and then he'll leave them alone. pulling it out, the contract reads "You will do one task the contractor asks of you" Everyone is completely against the idea. To sweeten the deal he even offers 1000 gold each on completion of the task but refuses to elaborate what the task is until they have signed the contract. Drache seems ok after hearing about the gold, stating it could be used to help the OFC but is soon reminded of the Ivory Crest's contract and how easy it was for him to be manipulated. |
| Session 25 | With everyone eating some food the man leaned back and told them to sign the contract. He is completely unwilling to tell them anything about his identity or what he is doing, stating that he is under no obligation to do so. "I have been more than patient with you a lot. sign it or die a 1000 gold poorer." the man said. Chenris agrees to sign it, much to the shock of the party. "You don't want to die do you?" he says as the man conjures a purple portal above chenris and drops the contract onto this lap. Not wanting to move, he signs the contract with [[Mage Hand|[Mage Hand]] and encourages the rest to do the same. The masked man seeing their hesitation, bargains that he will allow one question to be asked of him and he will answer to the best of his abilities as he is on a tight schedule. They brainstorm possible answers as they try to figure out the best way to learn as much as possible with one question. Some of these ideas are "What is your name?", "What are your intentions, good or bad?" or "Are you a part of The Auditors?". With that last one is an ongoing theory of theirs ever since they say the purple mist, flames and portals since they're very reminiscent of Xekai's magic. While they are discussing, the man amends the contract to include their one free question. |
| Session 24 | With a more sombre tone, they now head for Dawnhaven. As the city came into view, they were met with an alarming sight: surrounding the city were loads of people in heavy black robes with black tendrils shooting out from their outstretched arms into the centre of the city. Surrounding them was a thick purple mist, Chenris sensed dark energies being used but was unable to understand their purpose. The magics felt familiar, but none could place where they had felt it from before. A few moments of silence passed as they also looked stunned at the scene. The silence was broken by Korrigan, who said, "Wait, doesn't that purple remind you of Xekai and The Auditors?" |
| Session 23 | Xekai's purple portal opens just outside of Yakawa, and off in the distance they can see Wurinn Fuuldrusch drawing in the mud with a stick as he waits for them. Aiden Knight decides not to go through the portal, instead opting to travel to 'Blackwall to cure his Mummy Rot at the Temple of Seraphina and ensure the horse and carriage are safe. Drache rushes up to meet them and exclaims that they look like shit and that he only left them for a few days. Mordecai Reverence runs up to meet him gives him a massive hug and starts to explain the events of the last few days with Steve Ulan's cult in Silkhorn, The All-Father Temple and The Pyramid. Drache is shocked that they attempted the Pyramid without him, but Kal The Korrigan † explains that it was necessary as the Mummy Lord was becoming more active. He also asked if he got the message he sent with Animals Messenger about their plans, but Drache has no recollection of ever receiving the message. |
| Session 22 | They cross the portal to find themselves on a road they recognise to be near Foxtail Orchards with Obeus and Xekai waiting for them. Shocked to see the ever-mysterious cloaked figure, Mordecai asked what happened and why he was there. Obeus explained that when the door closed on her she went looking for help and found Xekai who offered to help them. Xekai spoke up, looking disgusted at how damaged and bloody they all were after the fight and opened a portal. A halfling woman soon walked through and asked if he wanted the usual, Xekai nodded and she fully healed The Party. They were now filled with questions that seemed to flow from their mouths like a vast waterfall, however, Xekai refused to answer any of them. Instead opting to say "At least you cleared that pyramid, a little behind schedule perhaps, but a good job nonetheless". Korrigan's questions about this schedule were only met with Xekai's refusal to answer. Korrigan then realises that Xekai was the one who killed Caden SteelBreaker †, otherwise known as Obeus' father. He tries to quietly point this out to Mordecai but Obeus overhears him and bursts into tears. |
| Session 22 | Annoyed that his authority was being challenged he replied, "No, I'm no longer with them anymore, I'm refusing with my own free will." This revelation shocked them into silence before Korrigan asked if he could at least tell them about Ebis Daro or Akin Netch ‡. However, his question is cut short by Xekai his face becomes twisted with rage at the mention of his previous faction's founder. When Korrigan tried to understand the source of the man's anger he simply opened a portal to a place Mordecai and Chenris recognised as the Uvam Dynasty. Simply stating "To save you the travel, now go" Chenris ventured to the portal, thanking him one last time for the help before crossing over. He was soon joined by the rest of The Party as they stood just outside Yakawa, Drache waiting for them in the distance. |
| Session 10 | The party find the town preparing for the hanging and they try and figure out a game plan for saving Steve. Korrigan makes a net of vines as a cushion in case he fell off the tower when he climbs up it later. The fall would defiantly kill him, but having some on on the inside of the tower would be super useful and he could tell Steve what was happening. Mordecai uses Disguise Self to make him look like a guard and sneaks in to the tower with Aidan. They tell the guard that they’re changing shifts and the guard is too exhausted to question it and leaves. Aidan breaks the lock and Mordecai reveals that they’ve come to save him. As they're trying to figure out how to escape with Steve, when a massive black dragon arrives at the window at 3am and they all climb aboard, it was sent by The Auditors, but the dragon didn't know Xekai. |
| Session 10 | Chenris are currently own on the streets of Steelwick distracting the guards as they see this massive black dragon fly to the castle. The guards all now approach the castle to investigate the dragon as it come down to pick up the two of them. Mordecai Messages Chenris not to panic as they’re about to be grabbed by a dragon. Riding on the dragon, the party get flown all the way to the OFC where they find Xekai and the city of Blackwall battle ready with Genevieve † coordinating everything. when the party arrive, Goblin Mafia are trying to strike a deal with Genevieve † for troupes in return for access to steelwick. |
| Session 09 | Deciding that they need disguises to get in to the courtroom, Mordecai puts Wurinn Fuuldrusch in drag and then used Disguise Self to make himself look like a tall buff human. Mordecai panics and accidentally refers to Dragche as his wife to try and sneak into the courtroom (forgetting this is the racist place that doesn't like interracial marriages. Once inside the courtroom, Mordecai and Drache find Xekai is giving a character reference of Steve when they enter (immediately clicking that it is Drache in drag). However the audience are not convinced until Mordecai starts shouted out in defence of Steve and saying Xekai is only speaking the truth and Steve should be freed - a few people are convinced. Drache try join in and convince people to free him which scares a lot people and making them leave - this really depressed Steve) |
| Session 06 | They reconvene and go talk to Galen Verix ‡ to talk politics. Xekai greets them there and warns them not to bullshit anything and Chenris does all the appropriate etiquette things because turns out he was a Nobel this entire time |
| Session 06 | The Party first met him when summoned them through employing Xekai and The Auditors, who he seems to have a long connection with. Verix, learning of the parties newfound leadership over the OFC invited them over to tell them that he was going to walk into the OFC and to accept his arrival or die trying to stop him. After some questions, it was eventually revealed he wanted the are because due to its strategic importance in the fight against Ehobel as well as it access to the seas. |
| Session 06 | Finally The Party ended their meeting with the emperor, however Wurinn Fuuldrusch was unaware of royal etiquette and turned his back on the emperor leading to him being filled with rage and Xekai having to help Drache do things properly. |
| Session 03 | We meet Steve Ulan 's Dad and he is a raging arsehole. He is very dismissive and hatful towards Steve and is even unaware of what he has been doing for the last few years, thinking Steve is still in his room after all this time. The party scam the nobel into giving them gold to check on Steve. They venture to Steve Ulan 's old room & find Xekai wanting to talk to them, teasing them about how doesn't know who he is and then disappears into another portal, after telling them that Galen Verix ‡ of The Dawn Empire wants to see them. |
| Session 02 | The party are quickly swept off their feet by Caden SteelBreaker † and were told to come with him to the site of an airship crash, they travelled half a day away to find a crashed airship in flames, upon investigation kal notices some of the soldiers on board the airship had fake OFC uniform, they found a survivor which attacked them as soon as they noticed his fake uniform. The party take the survivor out of the airship and the guards kill them immediately due to being a threat to Caden. The party noticed it was an inside job. Outside the airship after investigating, a survivor the party missed walks out and up to cayden. As soon as the party notice the faulty uniform they go to intervene but the survivor yelled "FOR Ignatius" and exploded in a fiery explosion. The party was injured and cayden was thrown against a tree, he seemed to be alive though unconscious but then the party was interrupted by a piercing roar and a wyvern descended onto the battle field. During the battle , Caden was killed due to a tree falling on. Xekai was later revealed to be behind this murder. |
| Session 02 | The other team bump into a hooded figure (Xekai) in one of the offices who roasts the hell out of Kal. Chenris find a tracked letter for the Sale of Firebranch Range - The Dawn has been notified that Chenris has opened the letter as he is not the the intended recipient. |
| Session 02 | The Hooded figure found what he was looking for, Chenris knows that Xekai is using forbidden magic. Xekai is the one that killed Caden SteelBreaker †. He knew Mordecai + Drache even though they were pretending to be dumb. He silences Drache because he found then annoying and prefers talking to Mordecai. Since he has everything he needs, he opens a portal and Mordecai "accidentally" falls in the portal and manages to pickpocket some of the pages that he had stolen. Xakei finds this funny leaving the group with a few pages saying "got ya" and one official OFC documents. |
