Kaelis Ignithar
Overview
Kaelis Ignithar was a legendary fire genasi arcanist from the final era of the Grayfall Empire. Renowned for his revolutionary mastery of pyromancy and his role in shaping modern magical theory, Kaelis remains a pivotal figure in the history of arcane scholarship. He is credited with the creation and codification of many foundational fire spells and the authorship of The Pyromantic Codex, a seminal work still studied today. His fate remains unknown following the fall of Grayfall, but his legacy continues to burn across the magical world.
Early Life
Kaelis was born in the Ember Wastes to a nomadic fire genasi tribe. Raised amid searing heat and shifting dunes, he demonstrated a natural affinity for flame manipulation from an early age. Seen by many as a living ember of divine power, Kaelis left the desert in pursuit of greater knowledge, eventually arriving at the dwarven-ruled Grayfall Empire.
Rise in Grayfall
Upon reaching Grayfall, Kaelis encountered both admiration and suspicion. While dwarves respected fire’s forging strength, they distrusted its volatility. Determined to redefine fire’s place in the arcane arts, Kaelis joined the Grand Academy of Grayfall. His unprecedented innovations in pyromancy soon caught the eye of Emperor Thalgrim Ironheart.
Kaelis's influence led to the development of powerful magical forges and fire-based weaponry, cementing his role as a vital asset to the empire. He systematised fire magic into a disciplined school of arcana, writing The Pyromantic Codex, which remains a foundational text in magical education. Notable spells attributed to him include:
- Fireball
- Firebolt
- Fire Storm
The Fall of Grayfall
As tensions rose within the empire, the oppressed human population launched a full-scale rebellion. Despite his loyalty to the empire, Kaelis recognised the unsustainable nature of its rule. He urged peaceful resolution, but Emperor Thalgrim refused.
During the final siege, Kaelis fought valiantly to defend the capital. Amidst the chaos, he smuggled out vital magical texts and relics, preserving Grayfall's arcane legacy. His final fate is uncertain—some claim he perished in his inferno, while others believe he escaped into obscurity.
Legacy
Kaelis Ignithar’s work outlived the empire he served. The Pyromantic Codex remains central to the study of fire magic. Artifacts believed to be of his making, such as the Everburning Crown and the Torch of Eternity, are considered priceless treasures by scholars and mages.
He is honoured in both magical and historical traditions as a visionary who sought to elevate fire beyond destruction—transforming it into a disciplined force of creation and knowledge.
Cultural Impact
Legends persist of a never-dying ember glowing in the ruins of Grayfall, believed by some to be the lingering essence of Kaelis himself. Whether myth or reality, Kaelis Ignithar is remembered as a symbol of brilliance, defiance, and enduring flame.

| Session 40 | With the lavender in hand, they returned to Oceanvale, hoping to find a multifaith church in the town. Entering, they found the city was now less empty than before, but many were still concerned and worried about their loved one who were still missing. Before Mordecai could interject, Halfbie had already approached a nearby guard, and judging by the insignia on the armour, they were one of the flaming sons. Halfbie approached the guard and explained that they were a friend of Kaelis Ignithar. The guard didn't believe them until Halfbie showed him the bell used to contact Kaelis Ignithar. |
| Session 38 | After some travelling, they made excellent progress until they reached the old wall separating the Dawn Empire from the Uvam Dynasty. The wall was not well-maintained, with much of it severely eroded or completely missing in some areas. Most of the Dawn flags had also been taken down and replaced with the emblem of The Brotherhood Of The Sun. Seeing the symbol reminded Halfbie of Kaelis Ignithar and his promise to teach them magic. They pulled out the magic bell they had given him and rang it. The metal of the bell reshaped into a face and said, "You are currently number 698 in the queue," before switching to hold music. Halfbie suggested they should call back another time, but as they spoke, a distant, hollow toll echoed through the fog-choked air—a deep and resonant bell ringing with sorrow that clung to the bones. |
| Session 35 | Later, as they pass by Farpost, they notice a lot of activity in the town. Many guards clad in bright orange armour are stationed around the city. They decide it would be wise to investigate, as it might provide clues about the identity of the "Prince of Fire," referenced in the 'Prince Of Fire' Flyer. |
| Session 35 | Drache then asked who they were, as they had never heard of the Prince of Fire before. The prince laughed and said, "Of course you've heard of me, or at least of my spells!" Mordecai, still annoyed that he wasn't the prettiest one at the moment, snorted and remarked that they probably didn't know whatever obscure spell the prince had created. The prince snorted even louder and exclaimed, "What, you haven't heard of Fireball?!" Mordecai was left dumbfounded, but before he could respond, Halfbie excitedly asked if he was the one and only Kaelis Ignithar, the famed wizard from the book The Pyromancer's Legacy - The Chronicles of Kaelis Ignithar. |
| Session 35 | Kaelis Ignithar began to rant about how kids these days had no clue about the magic they so casually wielded and wouldn't recognize true talent even if it hit them in the face. He was adamant that he was the best mage in the history of mages and claimed he could even defeat Ignatius if he tried. To the party's relief, Kaelis clarified that he wasn't related to Ebis Daro and was offended by the suggestion that he might worship a god he considered weaker than himself. |
| Session 30 | As they're leaving, they ask the receptionist if they have any information on the Prince of Fire. They do, and after a short search, The Party are handed a book called The Pyromancer’s Legacy - The Chronicles of Kaelis Ignithar. The Prince of Fire: The Life and Legacy of Kaelis Ignithar tells the story of Kaelis, a fire genasi from the Ember Wastes who became a legendary arcanist in the Grayfall Empire. Renowned for his mastery of pyromancy, Kaelis authored The Pyromantic Codex and created groundbreaking spells like Fireball and Fire Storm, revolutionising fire magic and advancing the empire’s industry. However, Grayfall’s oppression of humans sparked a rebellion, leading to its downfall. During the empire’s final battle, Kaelis vanished, with some claiming he perished in the flames and others believing he escaped with its knowledge. His legacy lives on through his teachings, artefacts like the Everburning Crown, and the enduring embers in Grayfall’s ruins, ensuring his flame continues to inspire future generations. |
