Overview

The OFC is an offshoot nation of The Dawn Empire, created after one of the wars between the empire and Ehobel. It was initially run by corrupt nobles and an ex-Dawn Empire General, Caden SteelBreaker †. After The War for the OFC's Freedom, the OFC is now under the leadership of The Party, which has instigated many reforms, including removing the previous leadership.

Society

Economy

Before the party's reforms, the nation used the credit system, which took the form of purple tattoos on people's arms, displaying the amount of money (Or debt) someone had. Money could then be transferred between parties via a magical spell.

Attitudes

Many of the inhabitants of the OFC were known to be quite racist, especially towards Elves. However, this has since changed when Steve Ulan Mistook the party's wish for the world to stop being so racist and started forcibly making people stop being racist with imprisonment and torture.

Magic

Magic in the OFC was highly restricted. Anyone who wanted to use magic had to get a magic license, or they would be arrested. The party has since lifted this restriction.

Diplomatic & Trade Relations

Ehobel

The OFC has strong relations with the Ehobel due to their friendship with its Empress, Obeus Yelris, who promised to come to the party/ OFC's aid if needed.

The Dawn Empire

Initially, the OFC had terrible relations with the Dawn as they were not only responsible for a lot of the people's bloodshed due to the various wars fought on the land, but the Emperor was also insistent on reclaiming what he saw as rightfully his.

The Emerald Fort

The Fort and the OFC have a good relationship due to the deal the Party struck with Genevieve, which resulted in the fort providing much of the nation's protection and armies during the war.

Fort Moldan

Fort Moldan and the OFC have a terrible relationship because the Dwarves infiltrate The Black Tower and rob the nation of all its gold. The Party are currently trying to retrieve it.

Geography

The OFC is mainly made up of dense forests and tall spruce trees. The nation is slightly bigger than the Uvam Dynasty and is surrounded by water on all sides but one, which borders with The Dawn.

Chenris Tallfellow ‡ and The Party made great use of the OFC's geography during The War for the OFC's Freedom. They used the dense woods for ambushes. Because it was surrounded by water on most sides and had only one entrance by land, they used that entrance as a natural choke point to control their enemy's movements.

History

Wars Between Ehobel and The Dawn Empire

Due to the OFC's position between Ehobel and the Dawn Empire, it was often used as a battleground for their wars. After one particularly bad skirmish, the Dawn retreated out of modern-day OFC and left it to ruin. This led to some of the army, and presumably Caden, defecting and forming the OFC.

The Ethertwist Haunter

The Ethertwist Haunter was created during one of these wars, most likely the 4th Dawn vs Ehobel War. The creation story showed that the parents of the baby, who would inevitably become the herald, travelled to the land now known as OFC when the Emperor told them it would be a safe place to move to and start a family.

During one of the illusions in The Black Woods], the party witnessed one of the Elven attacks when searching for The Pages.

History & Mentions

§ Interactions
Session 51 None of the party were ready to tackle the strangeness of Halfbie's sleep-talking from the night before. Instead, they got together in the old councillors' chambers to discuss their next move. The most immediate concern was the OFC's finances; without sufficient funds, they wouldn't be able to pay their staff, let alone implement their plans for the nation.
Session 51 Halfbie emphatically argued that it could be incredibly beneficial for the party to invade the Golden Fort to the north of the OFC. Their main argument was that it could solve two birds with one stone. The pirates of the Golden Fleet had terrorised the waters towards the north of the Verdant Peninsula by attacking ships and demanding protection money. Because of this, they were known for being one of the wealthiest groups in the material plane.
Session 51 They quickly changed the topic and asked Tereance if he would be willing to help them raid the Golden Fort. Halfbie escaped. They had books about how Terenace helped the party win the war for the ofc's freedom by manipulating the weather. They wondered if he could do the same during the raid to support the effort. The wizard chuckled and explained that he wasn't actually responsible for the weather; he was only there to keep Agolin Winterbor in check and focused on the spell.
Session 50 Halfbie rubbed their eyes before handing off most of the remaining gold to Keith, instructing him to drop it off in the OFC's vault for safekeeping. Tentatively stretching, Halfbie conceded, "Well, at least there isn't some form of evil presence within the city so we can actually use this time to relax and heal properly"
Session 49 With little else to do, The Party returned to the Black Tower, where they discussed how they weren't comfortable with Steve Ulan remaining in charge of the OFC, regardless of their previous events with the rebels and Ashen Cult. It was decided that it was for the best that they stayed in the nation, figured out what was happening, and sorted out as many issues as possible. Their first stop was the underground vaults to see the OFC's finances.
Session 49 Viktor pulled out a map and asked which nations The Party had no evil enemies with, suggesting the golden fleet was a potential and untapped revenue source. Halfbie said they probably would want to work with The Party after they flew into the sky and rained fireballs on their ships. Mordecai pointed to Uvam, saying they could be ok depending on the town. Ehobel was unknown at this point; the Dawn are so uneatable that it's hard to tell if they would trade with the OFC. Viktor pointed to Lost Haven, stating they were probably too unstable.
Session 49 "Exactly!" exclaimed Halfbie before quickly returning to their emo facade. Because no one has challenged them in years, their defensive skills will be even worse than their offensive skills. Plus, attacking the fleet would make the whole organisation angry at the OFC."
Session 49 Not everyone was convinced, but they all agreed that the plan had some merit. Regardless, Viktor pointed out that they should also hold a meeting to ask the nation what they wanted to do with the OFC, something everyone agreed on. The delegation decided to invite everyone in the nation to Blackwall in two days to discuss the nation's future.
Session 48 Approaching the guard, Mordecai asked if they could gain entrance. They were initially reluctant but soon convinced to let everyone through. Inside was the rebel leader, who was talking with his generals over a map of the OFC. The conversation stopped when the group walked into the room. The leader gruffly asked what they were doing in the room, to which Mordecai explained they were just there to talk and try to broker a pease deal.
Session 48 The leader explained that peace was not an option, and they were fighting so the OFC would be free again and allowed to operate however they pleased. Notably, he used Ehobels' system of governance as an example of what they wanted to do in the OFC. After further prodding, it was revealed that the leader, although not Elven himself, was part of Ehobel and was sent to the OFC by command of Empress Obeus Yelris.
Session 48 When the leader returned, the party told him their plan. He laughed, but before he could do anything, Viktor cast Charm Person on the leader and asked him to explain his true intentions in Blackwall. The leader laughed manically and explained that the true purpose of the plan was to destabilise the OFC to aid the Ashen Cult. The leader then explained that his original plan was to blow everyone up and enjoy doing it. The laughter was crazed, and the leader's body began to glow with brilliant light. Before they could react, the leader exploded. Raident and fire magic burst from the man's body, slamming the party against the wall, killing, burning, or destroying everyone and everything around them.
Session 46 Viktor explained that he was a travelling cleric who needed to go to the museum and collect a particular cloak that had been stolen from him. Halfbie and Drache showed them the way. Along the way, Viktor explained that he was adventuring to the OFC and the desert for his own reasons but declined to explain why. He offered to accompany them along the way, and all the party agreed it would be good to have an influential cleric on their team.
Session 46 They all decided it was best to travel to the OFC before continuing their journey. Drache and Mordecai began planning the route. Halfbie suddenly had a thought, grabbed the device that Ruldrim Thunderroot had given them, and clicked the button. Soon, the Ancient Dwarven Tomb appeared before them, and Ruldrim greeted them politely in one of his many bodies. Viktor was incredibly confused as Halfbie and Ruldrim quickly caught him up to speed.
Session 46 Halfbie began to explain the location of the Blackwall to the Dwarf, but he soon revealed that the Dwarfs originally named it Blackwall, and he knew exactly where to go. Halfbie sheepishly remarked on how weird it was that none had wanted to change this name, but Ruldrim countered by saying it was the most remarkable thing about the place, and you didn't want to advertise the riches that lay within. They all nodded with understanding, as the tob began to shift once again back to the OFC.
Session 45 "Is that why you're friends with us? Because you know the OFC is the whole thing. " asked Mordecai.
Session 35 Mordecai began speaking but was quickly interrupted; the prince was more interested in hearing from the handsome Tiefling than the unattractive leaders of the Organisation of Free Cities (OFC). Mordecai suppressed his frustration and let Drache take the lead.
Session 35 Fire licked at the Tiefling 's feet as they regained consciousness, bound tightly to a cross surrounded by all the people he had run from for years. His friends dangled upside down around them, bound and gagged, watching the events unfold - unable to help. Mordecai couldn't recognise laughs bitterly in the face of their Father, brother and previous employer. "You know this won't work." They chided as they gestured their bound hands towards the fire snaking around their ankles. Arwen simply did not care as he watched the leaders of the OFC dangle at his mercy. He informed the party through Mordecai that the goblin mafia would take over their precious OFC when they died by his hand. His eyes dragged themself over his previous employee, the object of his obsession and then vehement hatred, restrained in front of him. "One thing I have found after years of trying to find you, that little taste of catching you and you evading my grip once again, I no longer care about you." Those words hung like a man at the gallows as the slimy nightclub owner retreated, leaving the Thornewood family reunion to commence.
Session 30 Korrigan, happy that Halfbie was safe, let out a heavy sigh and simply stated that it was good that the rift didn't do too much damage to the Feywilds. They updated Halfbie as they had legitimately forgotten what was happening in the human and that they needed to get out of there. korrigan and drache figured that their best bet would be to just walk right out as the guards saw them walk in with Malin, so they probably wouldn't care if they walked out. they do just that, and the guards don't even bat an eye as they walk up the stairs and into the main library of The All-Father Temple. Korrigan found a nearby table, set a map on it, and said they should plan out their route for the foreseeable future. Korrigan says that he wants OFC since they need to sort out everything there and then end up near Lost Haven as Lorwyn is becoming impatient with him.
Session 27 They all wake up on the beaches of Itone a few days later when the captain and Obeus Yelris travel up the mountain to find them. Obeus doesn't hear anything from them. The Party all decided it would be best to go back up their mountain and check Uti's body and cave to see if they could find or learn anything about what happened or what might happen now that Ebis has the Firesoul Greatsword. Travelling up the mountain again, they find Uti's body fully decomposed and the one made out of solid gold. Concerned about the abnormality of the body decomposition rate and the gold skeleton, they decided to investigate. Mordecai suddenly remembers that they used Speak With Dead from a wild magic surge from a fight a while back. They use it to learn more while Aidan figures out how to return the body to the OFC to add to the nation's funds. The spell gave them five questions to ask the dragon.
Session 26 After a short walk, they approach The Pyramid and find that the regular path into the OFC runs right under the structure. Mordecai investigates in-depth to find some form entrance and tries randomly knocking on the wall. Suddenly the entrance appears and reveals a dark long corridor inside. Before actually entering the corridor, Mordecai worries that once they enter, the door might close behind them. Chenris shares their suspicion and decide to test the door my chucking a stick into The Pyramid, as it land the door slowly starts to lower. once the door has closed, Mordecai opens it again but the mechanism gets stuck open this time. they then realise that whatever is in there can get out.
Session 26 Mordecai and Chenris decide to see what the priest of Ignatius is like. This room is full of fire brazers, torches and other flame iconography. They find the priest waiting for them and gives them a warm greeting. Mordecai asks if he sees many visitors. He explains that he doesn't get a lot from The Dawn Empire but he does get a handful from Ehobel, the OFC. Uvam Dynasty, the islands to the northeast and lot from The Desert. He assumes The Sundering is a bit too fresh in the minds of the humans.
Session 25 For the last few days, Aiden Knight has been travelling back to Blackwall to retrieve the horse and cart. However, as soon as he got to the stables time suddenly started to slow down until it completely halted leaving Aidan in an unmoving world. It was a very similar experience to the last time when he had to go to The Tulan Fort, the only difference was that this time there was a black mist that seemed to follow the road out of the OFC. With little else to do, he followed it, the mist took him into The Dawn Empire and to a fork in the road, one way would take him to Dawnhaven and the other would take him to Farpost the trail of mist seemed to want to to take him to Farpost. The thought of having to deal with something sinister alone terrified him so he opted to go to Dawnhaven and meet up with the rest of The Party.
Session 22 Before they carry on with their expedition, Korrigan shows Chenris the book of poems and points to the poem called Golden Walls and asks if this means the walls around them are not made of real gold. After testing a sample for Pyrite, Chenris sadly concludes the walls are made of fool's gold, putting a hull on their plan to harvest the gold to use to bump the OFC's finances. The next room of note is a short corridor with a large mirror at the end of it, Mordecai realises that the poem called The Reflection holds the secrets to progressing. The mirror's reflection seems to have some mysterious properties in how it reflects its subjects. There doesn't seem to be any distortion to the image, nor the rest of The Party, only reflecting the viewer. Reading the poem, Chenris suggest saying words of affirmation to the mirror but this has no effect. Korrigan attempts to simply walk through, but when he is unable to pass he doesn't feel the cool and smooth surface he expected. Instead, it was as if he bumped into himself as he felt skin, bone a cloth. Obeus takes some time to study the poem and suggests they should try treating the reflection with some respect. Mordecai greets the reflection and politely says "After you". The reflection smiles and says "No I insist, after you" before moving out of the way. The rest do the same and walk straight through.
Session 22 On one side of the room is an impossibly large amount of Gold. On the other side is the Mummy Lord, seemingly asleep, in front of the Lord is an onyx black sword. They all hesitate before entering, Poems from the Sand Dunes still had some unused poems, however, none of them could figure out how they might be used in this situation. Korrigan summons the Man-Eating Horse to interact with the room and once it touched the gold coins, the Mummy Lord awoke. The Pyramid starts to shake violently upon its revival and sand begins to fall from the ceiling. The Party are then presented with a dilemma: the door to the room is slowly closing, should they enter or leave? All but Obeus were able to dive into the room before the door shut. Now they were left face-to-face with the master of the temple. The Mummy Lord speaks angrily in Infernal to the group, Mordecai, being the only one to speak the language responds with Message. The Lord is confused, not knowing where he is. Mordecai tries to explain he is in a temple on the boundary of the OFC and The Dawn Empire, The Mummy Lord's anger and confusion increase as he is unaware of those names. He exclaims, that he is the ruler of a grand and ancient kingdom in the desert where many adored him. They then make the link between the poem and the Mummy Lord's life and explain he was betrayed. This only seems to fully unleash the lord's wrath, as he summons his sword from the ground and stands from his golden throne.
Session 21 There are no guards at the walls, so they're able to go straight to the tavern. The door to the tavern is broken and they can hear people inside talking. Mordecai and Korrigan decide to eavesdrop on the convocation. The people are talking about sharpening their weapons and getting ready for something. Mordecai puts his ear to the door and and accidentally falls into the tavern. As soon as this happens, he pretends to be really drunk and one of the men looks at their sword before saying that he'll take them back to their house. Mordecai explains he isn't local and is from Uvam Dynasty. Carrying on, he explains that he is a person of many homes. The man thinks this means he is homeless. Mordecai denies this and explains that he travels all over and accidentally mentions the OFC and man seems shocked as they apparently don't see many OFC folk around anymore with The Pyramid.
Session 20 After a short walk, they approach The Pyramid and find that the regular path into the OFC runs right under the structure.
Session 20 Mordecai and Chenris decide to see what the priest of Ignatius is like.
Session 12 After the events of The War for the OFC's Freedom, Wurinn 'Drache' Fuuldrusch lost the use of his leg, leading to Korrigan creating a new one for him using his Druid abilities. It was at this point that party present their OFC Plans, they give all of them to a representative call Keith Horrigan who explains that the OFC has no money for any of the plans. This lead the group decide to travel to other nations to establish trade relationships, they decide to start with Ehobel since the enemy of enemy is my friend. The Party temporally puts Keith in charge while The Party were away. Chenris tries to intimate him but fails because the guy is so confident that it doesn't work. The Party leave Steve Ulan to watch him for them.
Session 11 After a brief conversation with Genevieve †, they can't decide weather to hire the goblins so they put it up to a vote with Chenris noting that they can use the goblin troupes as sacrificial pawns in the fight to make them easier to deal with later on. The Party votes 4-1 with Kal being the odd one out to hire the goblins. They also decide that contacting The Tulan Fort and The Golden Fleet isn't worth it. The Tulan Fort just isn't close enough to the OFC to be able to make in time and the Fleet is just too unreliable. With that chenris motions for some guards to bring back the goblins and they agree to a deal. The Party had to physically force Korrigan to sign the contract.
Session 11 Genevieve † seems satisfied with this strategy saying that they might just be able to do this and win. Chenris sends a guard to tell Winterbor and Witherfeather to get in position. they then get on The Black Dragon to be taken to the front lines to give a speech. after making their preparations Mordecai Reverence and Chenris go on to the platform ready for their speech. Chenris uses his Multitool to create some atmospheric music to make the speech more inspiring. Mordecai's speech is so inspiring that all of the OFC's forces are amped up and ready to take on such a daunting threat.
Session 10 The party go deliver the two notes to Farpost. As they're walking through the town, they note that the town and its soldiers are gearing up a for a large scale attack. In the middle of town is a make ship command centre, where the party meet Commander Arez †. After giving the command the two notes he sends troupes over to Steelwick to give them some protection and upon reading the first note from Dawnhaven have, commands that the troupes get ready for battle, they are heading to the OFC. He gives them some money for their quest and then heads off to make his own preparations. The Party leave, but not before Chenris gets a good look at their battle map to see where troupes are.
Session 10 Chenris are currently own on the streets of Steelwick distracting the guards as they see this massive black dragon fly to the castle. The guards all now approach the castle to investigate the dragon as it come down to pick up the two of them. Mordecai Messages Chenris not to panic as they’re about to be grabbed by a dragon. Riding on the dragon, the party get flown all the way to the OFC where they find Xekai and the city of Blackwall battle ready with Genevieve † coordinating everything. when the party arrive, Goblin Mafia are trying to strike a deal with Genevieve † for troupes in return for access to steelwick.
Session 06 The Party first met him when summoned them through employing Xekai and The Auditors, who he seems to have a long connection with. Verix, learning of the parties newfound leadership over the OFC invited them over to tell them that he was going to walk into the OFC and to accept his arrival or die trying to stop him. After some questions, it was eventually revealed he wanted the are because due to its strategic importance in the fight against Ehobel as well as it access to the seas.
Session 06 Chenris Tallfellow ‡, initially suggested that the people of the OFC could leave and find another place to call home, however, Galen Verix ‡ hated this idea due to potential uprising that could happen in the future - which he absolutely couldn't allow. After some pondering, Chenris suggested that using The Emperor’s propaganda team to make the emperor sound merciful like here cares for the people of the OFC. Suggesting that they could say that Ehobel might have plans to invade the area due to it strategic importance in war. The emperor could then move these people to location that he has better ability to control/ gather Intel on the people. He seemed pleased with this idea and allowed The Party to leave, saying his people would be in touch.
Session 02 The Hooded figure found what he was looking for, Chenris knows that Xekai is using forbidden magic. Xekai is the one that killed Caden SteelBreaker †. He knew Mordecai + Drache even though they were pretending to be dumb. He silences Drache because he found then annoying and prefers talking to Mordecai. Since he has everything he needs, he opens a portal and Mordecai "accidentally" falls in the portal and manages to pickpocket some of the pages that he had stolen. Xakei finds this funny leaving the group with a few pages saying "got ya" and one official OFC documents.
Session 02 Getting the boarder of the OFC, The Party runs into some guards that recognise Steve Ulan as part of a local nobel family. The only way for The Party to get through is by saying The Party is a pat of Steve's entourage - meaning they don't need any documents.
Session 00 The journey to Silkhorn, led by Captain Bridges, offered the group a chance to reflect on their escape and bond amid the tense atmosphere. The quiet forest trail, marked by dappled sunlight and the faint scent of the sea, provided a deceptive calm. As Bridges shared the region's history, the group learned of the Organisation of Free Cities (OFC) and its unique credit-based economy, posing a challenge to their reliance on gold. Entering the weathered port town, the adventurers found its resilience remarkable despite its scorched buildings and wary inhabitants. At the Adventurers Guild, they secured membership and lodging while navigating strict regulations, including a law against unlicensed magic. Chenris complied, purchasing a licence, but Mordecai defiantly refused, setting the stage for future complications.
