| Session 44 | After helping make the Molotov cocktails, Misty drew a detailed map of the slums, and Tish pointed out choke points they could use. Korrigan turned to Aiden, pointing at the wall where the bow and armour were, and asked him to sneak down to grab them. Aiden nodded, sneaked off, and quickly returned, having not been spotted. |
| Session 44 | For the first time since entering the slums, korrigan usual mischievous grin infected his face. "If the old ways didn't work, we'll have to do it the fey way." |
| Session 44 | They carried on through the slums, noticing that the surprise had worn off and the guards were starting to fight back and kill slaves. They wondered if one should stay behind and help armoured people up. Tish reassuringly puts a hand on Korrigan's shoulder before nominating himself to help the slaves organise. "Aiden and i have got it from here" |
| Session 44 | "Thank you. That's good information right there. I will stop wearing irons on purpose. Would you be able to go..." He grabs the doctor on the shoulder." Would you be able to go and help the slaves? The miners? Heal them when you can? Um... And we will take some hunters and travel to Luminara." The doctor agrees and goes into the slums with his medkit. |
| Session 44 | A few hunters stay behind, ready to help. Tish catches up, exclaiming that it's very bloody in the slums. Korrigan points to the doctor, saying that he will help where he can. Tish sarcastically replies, "I think it's gonna take a bit more than a doctor to reattach a head!" but thanks him none the less. |
| Session 43 | The Party woke up to their now familiar routine of a Goliath Guard barging into their tent and marching down to the depths of the mines to mine for 11 hours. The only difference this time was that much of the party (Mordecai, Korrigan and Drache) had contracted a violent cough; Halfbie and Aidan seemed fine. Mordecai’s cough seems much worse than the others. Once they were free from the mines, they went down to the mess hall to get their food for the day before it was thrown away. Lull gave them a knowing wink while Halfbie was deep in thought about how they could fix the magic situation, and concluded that they would need some kind of distraction or reason for leaving Siltwater Slums, like joining the hunters, but none of the party knew of a straightforward way to join the hunters. |
| Session 43 | After the meal, they decided to try heading for the doctors. Korrigan led the way to where he remembered the doctors being located, only to find them closed and the building rotting into the ground. On the door was a message scratched in goblin. Aidan, who spoke the language, translated it to say ‘Doctors moved to The Laughing Miner’. None of them knew where this could be, so they tasked Aidan with trying to learn more about the place. However, anytime he asked about the place, most people refused to talk to him, and the only thing he learnt was that it was a pub and was most likely run by the Goblin Mafia, something he worked out from the fact that all around Siltwater Slums were adverts, written in goblin, for joining the mafia. |
| Session 43 | Mordecai suggested they all try tailing someone who was a part of the goblin mafia to see if he would lead them to the pub. Drache asked if that would be wise, as it would be very obvious if a group of 5 were following one goblin around Siltwater Slums of Lost Haven. Halfbie suggested they take turns tailing the goblin while the rest stayed back, and they could then swap out at various points to keep suspicions low. They agreed this was the best plan and soon found a goblin that fit the typical archetype for the mafia and began tailing them. Drache was the first to tail them and followed the goblin to the church of Ignatius, where the goblin finally spotted him. Halfbie took over and followed the goblin who walked around Siltwater Slums for a while, almost as if they were patrolling. Halfbie was soon caught, and Mordecai took over and followed the goblin to a wooden gate, where the goblin paid two platinum coins to the guard, who let him through. As the goblin walked through, he spotted Mordecai but did nothing about them. |
| Session 43 | Mordecai awoke in a room that looked considerably better than elsewhere in Siltwater Slums. The room was medium-sized and filled with goblins, all brandishing weapons. In front of them was an old desk covered in paper and money, with a well-dressed goblin sitting behind it, the presumed boss of this goblin mafia branch. |
| Session 43 | With little else to do, they claimed a room, caught each other up, and got some rest. They were all awakened to explosions and frantic shouting from the guards during the night. Looking outside, many of the guards were running towards Siltwater Slums, many leaving their posts empty. Taking this as their chance to meet with Korrigan, they joined the rush for the gates. As they made their way to the gate, they ran past a large stone gate that was the exit from Siltwater Slums. Halfbie pulled the group to the side, saying that this was the perfect opportunity to leave Siltwater Slums and find the source of the antimagic field. They both agreed and decided it was best for Mordecai and Halfbie, the two magically inclined party members, to leave while Drache returned to Kal The Korrigan †. |
| Session 43 | Mordecai was stopped by a guard near the gate, who had been ordered to stand watch. The guard told them that the hunt was off today due to a slave revolt. Mordecai explained that Agurd was told to go out on a hunt in case slaves escaped. The guard, too tired to complain, told Mordecai to get their bow and do what they were told. Upon seeing Mordecai's confused look, I told them to get a bow from the armoury; they just had to show their tattoo and would be given one. Mordecai was still confused and left for the armoury. The conversation gave halfbie a chance to slip through and escape Siltwater Slums. They hid in a nearby bush waiting for Mordecai to join them. |
| Session 43 | Mordecai used their new equipment to join Halfbie outside, while Drache threw it over the wall back into Siltwater Slums, stashed it away for later, and returned to Korrigan. The choice of the expositions made it easy to slip back. |
| Session 43 | Watching his friends safely go through the gate, Korrigan returned to the house with all the alcohol in it, grabbed as many bottles as he could, and returned to their tent. Inside, he began fashioning Molotov Cocktails. Misty and Tish helped make them. While making them, Tish explained that the wooden gate went to the huntsman's quarters. After the slave revolt, they were separated from the main slave population to help prevent another one. Once all the Molotov Cocktails had been made, Korrigan attached long fuses to them and placed them all over Siltwater Slums, mainly in abandoned buildings and near the wall. He wanted to create a distraction to help the other escape. Once they had all been set, he lit the fuse and returned to the tent. |
| Session 43 | The king gave a speech telling them that the lords were now free to return to their lives. The speech was short but incredibly insulting to all the slaves in Siltwater Slums. Each insult was met with further insults from the crowd or a round of applause. Finally, the king explained what the punishment would be for their revolt: “I decree that one from each household shall be slaughtered to set an example of what happens when filth tries to fight back” The crowd erupted in a deafening applause as the king returned to his palace. |
| Session 42 | The next morning, another huge man with a whip and sword woke them up. The day was much the same as yesterday, with them being taken into the mines to extract coal. While walking around, Halfbie did their best to track the ebb and flow of the antimagic field and found that the further away from Siltwater Slums they were, the weaker the antimagic field was. |
| Session 42 | After a short conversation, it was revealed that there were probably a few guards who could sneak stuff into Siltwater Slums, but unfortunately, she didn't know any of them. When Korrigan asked for more information, the slave locked up and told them to get some gruel before they threw it all away. To the Party's horror, the slave revealed that after the cutoff point for food, they throw it all away to mess with the slaves. |
| Session 42 | Korrigan gestured for everyone to join him and take a seat. Korrigan sat momentarily to think of the best way to explain his story. "So I guess it all began 28 years ago, when I was born here in Siltwater Slums as KA1 to my father, Ray. My mother died during childbirth. As soon as I could walk, I was transferred into labour, as is usual here. I was initially sent down to the mines, but I was allergic to something in the mines, so they sent me to work in my father's forge, which is where we were yesterday. I was also allergic to something in there, so I was designated to die until I was saved by a huntress called Alandra." |
| Session 42 | The King ordered purges of Siltwater Slums to purge out the weak. Later in my adolescence, I found purpose alongside a group of close friends: Thorn, Sera ‡, Kael †, and my mentor, Alandra. We were trying to find ways to make it better for us. We started crafting propaganda, a book. We tried every single peaceful option to end slavery here. We even had a petition with half of the names of the people in the slum, saying that if we were given freedom and a small wage, we would stay and do our jobs. |
| Session 42 | It's all a blur. He killed my friends in front of me. He killed my father in front of me. He killed everyone I cared about. And then, in the end, when it was just Sara and me, she gave me a sword and made me promise to escape and return when I was stronger. So I took her sword and I ran. I had her and watched her die behind me until I came down to Siltwater Slums by the water. |
| Session 41 | After 14 hours of back-breaking work, the slaver shouts, "Right, that's your shift over!!" and unshackles them from their pickaxes. Then, he leads them out of the mines and back into Siltwater Slums. The man from the tent asks if they would like to see the surface, to which they all agree. Going through a significant checkpoint, they found themselves in an even worse slum as people covered in bruises slept in puddles of their filth, inches away from another slave in the same condition. |
| Session 41 | The priest looked sad for a moment before continuing, "Now tell me, my children, you've seen Siltwater Slums, you've seen the villainy of these so-called protectors, ones that whip us, the ones that treat us like dogs." He paused a moment before continuing, "How would you like a change? A change from whips, a change from chains?" |
| Session 41 | The priest changed the subject to food, stating that when new slaves are brought, the church offers them extra rations. Due to the lack of food in Siltwater Slums, this is only a one-time thing, so they shouldn't get used to it. The priest then handed them two radishes, some cabbage, and a few leeks. This should make the first few meals a bit nicer for you," he said with a smile. Mordecai thanked the priest before grabbing the food. |
| Session 41 | He explained that he and his friend did everything they could to try to change things. They wrote pleas to the king, a book, and everything else. They even sent a petition to half the people in Siltwater Slums, saying they would stay if they were given freedom and a small wage. As Korrigan recounted the memory, Mordecai stepped in front of Korrigan and looked at him with a look of seriousness and certainty that Korrigan had never seen before. |
