Overview

A mercenary fort that used to be led by Genevieve † and is the rival to The Tulan Fort. It is located far east of The Dawn Empire and is the closest point to Lost Haven by sea. It is described as a sprawling city of people with many of them acting as standing soldiers for their leader, Genevieve †, whose family have run the fort for 1000s of years. With Genevieve † herself running it for at least 200 years. It notably sided with the OFC during The War for the OFC's Freedom and was a part of The Coalition during The Sundering.

History & Mentions

§ Interactions
Session 46 Drache and Halfbie were finalising their preparations. Drache offered a silent prayer for the safety of Korrigan's soul, which was met with faint laughter on the wind. However, Drache didn't notice, as when his prayer was finished, a doctor rushed over to them and, between panting breaths, explained that Mordecai had awoken. For the first time since the emerald fort, Halfbie looked geneieunly happy again as they rushed at full pace to find their friend.
Session 42 "The King was behind me. We confronted again. He stabbed me multiple times before throwing my body into the ocean. I drifted for hours or days before I awoke on some rocks. Now I know I awoke at the rocks below the Emerald Fort. I was hauled out of the water and saved by..." his voice trailed off again, for he said, "Fey creatures saved me. And then I ran, got on land, and started heading as far away from Lost Haven as possible. I got to Dawnhaven and heard about a great guild called the Ivory Crest, and the rest, you know, is history."
Session 41 Standing at the threshold of the Wyverns Cave, the party paused to get their bearings and figure out where they needed to go. The Tour Du Ashen's hands accounted for them discovering a teleporting dwarven room and venturing back to the Wyverns Cave. Studying the map closely and referring to an old book they found recently, Halfbie suggested they travel to The Emerald Fort, not only would it give them easy access to Lost Haven, but it would give them all a chance to catch up with an OFC business partner and to learn what happened after Genevieve's death [^1]. The rest all agreed and began preparations to head off.
Session 41 Before they left, Ruldrim approached them with a small black box with a large red button on it. He explained that if the party needed to use the room to travel, they could call him using this box. Thanking him for being so thoughtful, they all headed off for the emerald fort.
Session 41 After a few days of travelling, they finally saw the emerald fort's white walls and green banners. As they approached, Drache became increasingly nervous. Reaching the gate, the guards stopped them, asking what their business was with the fort. Mordecai explained that they were allies from the war for the cause's freedom and wanted safe passage through to Lost Haven. The guards quickly relaxed and explained they were more than welcome to enter, but if they wanted to travel to Lost Haven, the fort just requested that they do it at night.
Session 41 When pressed for a reason for this, the guards explained that the Emerald Fort and Lost Haven have a somewhat turbulent relationship. According to the guard, Lost Haven would rather trade with the southern colonies, as the Verdant Peninsula had become too unpredictable. Halfbie pushed them further, and they admitted that the fort didn't want to be seen as fraternising with other nations too much; they were supposed to remain neutral.
Session 41 As the rest of the party hung back, Drache nervously stayed put. He wanted to ask who was currently running the fort after Genevieve's death. The guards explained that after her heroic death, her son, Kaes, took over. Unlike his mother, he is a very intelligent ruler, much colder and calculating. The conversation eventually turned to The Tulan Fort, where guards admitted they had heard how bad it had gotten, and its reputation had been run into the ground. Halfbie chimed in, asking the Emerald Fort's opinion on unions. The guards explained they didn't have one as they were all family at the fort, leaving Halfbie uneasy.
Session 30 Malin carried on talking, almost losing himself in his own words of doom and gloom. He explained that During the first Sundering, the world had The Auditors, Galen Verix ‡, and other strong warriors, like Caden SteelBreaker †. Now, most of those warriors are dead and missing. The Dawn Empire is fractured, and Ehobel has lost its most powerful Wizard queen, Ashira Yelris. Strixhaven, although still a strong faction, is nowhere near the same strength as before, with its renewed focus on research during times of peace. Tulan Fort is in shambles, and The Emerald Fort is without a leader.
Session 30 Halfbie mentions that they should probably drop off Obeus Yelris in Ehobel before she is gone for too long. Drache wants to check on The Tulan Fort and The Emerald Fort, while Mordecai wants to check up on Yokotori. After checking a few things, Halfbie declares that Strixhaven is currently docked south of Twopines Estate, so it might be worth going there as they might have some more information. Drache jokingly dubs this the Tour De Ashen plan, and they quietly cheer for their new plan.
Session 23 Soon the rest of The Party catches up and asks what's going on. Drache introduces the man as Olgrik †, his best friend in the fort before he left. They also explain that they call Drache Stumpy because he is one of the smallest in the fort. Everyone found this incredibly hard to believe with how their friend is - easily towering over most of the people they've met on their journey so far. Olgrik † then notices Drache's missing leg and states it will be quite a shock to Emmeline but he's sure that won't matter in the end. Mordecai asks what types of people typically work at the fort so he could start working on a disguise. Olgrik † explains that there are a lot of half-orcs and many of the other races. "They ain't too picky as long as you can fight and will obey the boss" explains Olgrik †. Drache admits they don't treat people well at Tulan, unlike in The Emerald Fort. Mordecai explains that he has some spells that he can use to disguise himself, the half-orc laughs stating he'll need to put on a lot of muscle to fit in around the fort.
Session 23 With their preparations made, Drache opens the bookcase and steps out into the familiar storage room of the fort, mostly filled with boxes of rations. They hope that most should be asleep, allowing them to move through the fort without encountering many people. They quietly open the door and are confronted with an empty courtyard with a fountain. They take a right and along a path, they encounter a heavy wooden door, Drache explains this is the throne room, and they will have to be as quiet as possible in there or be spotted and tortured. Putting an ear to the door they can hear a man snoring. Drache, assuming it is Damascus, explains that he is a light sleeper so be careful as they all sneak in. Klyn is asleep on his throne, there are many knick-knacks strewn about the place as well as various notes, maps and journals. As they are passing through Chenris garners at the maps to see if they hold any useful information. The maps have most major cities marked, and highlight where Tulan troops patrol. It seems they never go beyond The Great Wall to the south, and keep a wide birth from The Emerald Fort.
Session 23 Just as they're about to head in that direction, Korrigan notices a door starting to creak open and ushers everyone into a bush to hide. Out the door Damascus Klyn † and a strong-looking dwarf appear talking about how they "Might as well kill that Emerald Fort bitch, She won't give us anything" as they head into the throne room. Drache could not help but feel proud at how resilient his love had been. With Emmeline's life on the line, they decide to split up. Korrigan will go grab the key while the rest will try to save Emmeline if she is in danger. Mordecai gives everyone Bardic Inspiration, while Drache gives Korrigan directions to the fort before they split up for their missions.
Session 11 Korrigan, ever the propionate of free will, is left to stew in his frustration over being forced to do something against his will. That and the ongoing frustration of not knowing who the trait of the group is, springs to action. Interrupting the group's strategy meeting, he declares he knows how to find the betrayer in their ranks and uses his fey pact to summon Merek The Wise to his aid. Upon realising what is happening Merek starts to profusely sweat with worry and fear and timidly asks what is required of him. With a manic laugh, he tells Merek that if he uncovers who is responsible for failing the ritual and not banishing The Ethertwist Haunter, then is free of his debt. Merek is frozen in fear before being hurried off to do his job. Satisfied with the results of his actions he turns to the rest of The Party and asks what preparation for the war need to be done. A moment of hesitation, Genevieve † gets back to explaining the the dire situation the OFC is in. Even with The Emerald Fort troupes, they are still out numbered at least 5 to 1. The Dawn has more airships, warships and heavy duty weaponry at their disposal as well. She also makes note that even though the OFC does have access to ships and airships, these are all small and/or merchant vessels meaning if they are all lost then their nation will be crippled in their trade capabilities after the war, even if they were to win.
Session 05 The group regrouped near Strixhaven ’s teleportation hub, their next destination The Emerald Fort. The hub was a grand hall filled with travellers and bustling attendants. A blue-scaled kobold manned the reception desk, efficiently arranging their passage and handing them a slip with their room number and departure time. With an hour to spare, the party dispersed to explore. Korrigan, drawn to a coffee shop run by a golden-scaled dragon, convinced Mordecai to join him for tea. However, the cost of their drinks—fifty gold —left Korrigan floundering. Mordecai, with a resigned sigh, unclasped his golden chain and offered it as payment. The gesture went unacknowledged as Korrigan accepted his tea in silence, a heavy mix of gratitude and guilt weighing on him.
Session 01 Drache ripped The Emerald Fort emblem from this shirt, kissing it and determined that he would find who went missing.
