Session Summary

Exploring a locked R&D department, the party uncovered a dark laboratory filled with notes on failed experiments and a mysterious green liquid made from modified dragon blood. When Drache drank the liquid, he had a vision of a mountain valley filled with dragon eggs, guarded by a massive red dragon. Deeper in the facility, they discovered a cavern where two adult red dragons were held captive by floating needle-launchers, guarded by two invisible children. A tense standoff ensued where Halfbie was killed but revived, ultimately revealing the children—designated as experiments "3442" and "3443"—were powerful, sickly beings created from the blood of a god, who referred to themselves as "New Gods" (NG).

After naming the children Seer and Myst, the party convinced them to leave the cave and helped free the dragons. Using a magical artifact to rewrite a minor event, Halfbie summoned Xekai, who directed them to a golden dragon egg that Drache took to the mountain from his vision. There, time accelerated, and the egg hatched into a young girl named Cas, who possessed powerful psychic abilities and a humorous, megalomaniacal personality. With Cas joining Seer and Myst through a golden portal to safety, the party set their sights on rescuing the remaining "New Gods," acknowledging that their quest is far from simple.

Full Session Notes

After a long walk down a flight of stairs and down a set of long, gilded corridors, the party found themselves in front of the heavy wooden door labelled 'The R&D Department'. The door was locked, and not wanting to draw any attention, the party decided to get Aidan to pick the lock and quietly enter. Once inside, they were greeted by a grand atrium with golden detailing and pristine marble flooring. In the middle of the room was a large oak desk, presumably where a receptionist would work during the day.

The atrium had 3 doors: 2 on the left and 2 on the right, and a larger door right behind the desk. Halfbie immediately went to the desk and began skimming a few of the documents that lay on top of it. The majority of the papers contained lists of names. immediately Halfbie got the sense that Chenris was recognised as famous alumni from Stixhaven.

Moving on, they tried to make their way through the door behind the desk, but found it locked shut. Inspecting the door, they felt something strange emanating from it, but before they could say anything, Viktor proudly strode over, exclaiming that getting through doors such as these was easy and that all you had to do was look through the keyhole and misty-step to the other side. A puff of mist appeared, but, indeed, of Viktor disappearing, he was flung back, nearly hitting the desk.

Halfbie looked more closely and explained that the door had a seal cast over it that prevented people who weren't allowed from opening it or travelling through it. Halfbie helped the doctor stand up while Mordecai began rummaging through the desk in search of the key they could use. Halfbie then approached the door on the left and found it unlocked. Mordecai and Drache followed them into the room and found themselves in what seemed to be an office space.

At the back of the room was another locked door; one of the keys Mordecai found in the desk turned out to be the correct one. The door opened to what seemed ot be a rather lavish manager's office with an ornate desk and a comfy lounge chair behind it. The party immediately began rummaging through the desk and found two interesting notes.

(x::The first was a note saying that using portals for travel should not work. The portals that powerful mages have been seen using would either require a lot more Magic than to be practical or would be so difficult to cast without help that it would be impossible. At the bottom of the note was a list of known portal users:

The second was a note that had Velthis written on it alongside the name 'Project NG'

having found everything of note, Mordecai and Drache begin walking out of the room. Halfbie moves to join them, but unbeknownst to them, as they were about to leave, they grabbed the note with Leotoris' name and tach in their bag. An act that only Mordecai managed to see as they walked out. They couldn't help but smile, knowing that Henri's probably grabbed the note.

While the others were exploring the manager's office, Viktor, no longer wanting to hide his vampiric nature, began walking up the walls. The atrium had a second floor, so he decided to have a look. However, upon closer inspection, all the windows on the right side had been boarded up. He crawled down to meet the rest of the party to inform them of his findings. They all decided it would be best for them to investigate the other side next.

This door was also locked, but with Aidan's lockpicking skills, the door soon creaked open. A corridor confronted them; on the left, a set of 4 doors; on the right, a single double door. They all decided to go to the first one on the left and found a small room. In one corner was a large metal drum containing an unknown bubbling liquid. There was also a small desk with scattered notes strewn about it and a cupboard attached to the wall.

Halfbie practically leapt for the notes and read about experiment number 4325: Subject did not survive, decrease the amount of nightweed in the next batch. The rest of the notes were similar, containing basic documentation of previous experiments. While Halfbie read, Drache dared to try some of the mysterious liquid. He laughed, claiming that he needed no dare to drink a brew and opened the faucet fund on the drum.

A few drops of a viscous green liquid escaped the drum and fell on the floor. Drache looked at the liquid oldly feeling quite familiar to the liquid. Much to the pretext of Mordecai, Drache knelt to dip his fingers in the liquid. Another bad thing happened as a result of this action, but the strange feeling of familiarity grew much stronger.

Seeing it was safe to touch, Halfbie knelt and cast Identy on the liquid. Suddenly, their mind was filled with information on 100s of spells and the many ingredients that made them up. With Chernis's help, they managed to process the information somewhat. There was one ingredient that truly stood out to both of them: modified Dragon's blood.

Halfbie did not stop the processing of the information, which was taking some time. While waiting, Drache licked his fingers. His vision was instantly blown out. When his vision finally adjusted, he found himself at th peak of a mountain. Below in the valley were 100s, maybe 1000s, of dragon eggs. Across the valley was a large red dragon. The Dragon beheld Drache something in between contempt and confusion. Its deep voice boomed in his mind. "you maybe distantly related young one, but you do not belong here" In an instant, Drache was returned to the other golden fort.

Both he and Halfbie were frozen as they tried to process everything. Drache was the first to recover as he described what he saw. According to the others, Drache never left the room, but he did become very quiet. Halfbie soon recovered and gave a basic overview of the liquid's composition. As they were leaving the room, Viktor raided the cupboard, taking some of the poison found in there.

The next room was primarily filled with a large workbench. In them, 'idle' was a contraction, and after a brief investigation, Halfbie concluded that it was a device used for heating. When using other devices in the room, a piece of wire in the middle would begin to glow and emit significant heat.

In the next room, the labs are much darker, and the room is a bit bigger than the previous two. There, a large stone table with a dead baby dragon tied to it was found. The Dragon was covered in cuts and wounds. Halfbie took a closer look, their eye examining have precise incision. They announced that it appears the Dragon, which could have been only 1-2 days old, was the subject of an autopsy. The scientist doing it probably did not understand why this Dragon died. Viktor attempted to revive the Dragon, but all he could muster was the animate dead spell. The party all watched in hoor has the baby dragon slowly got up. It did not breathe, and its eyes looked like a hollow rendition of it in its alive state.

The fourth door leads to a set of stairs to the second floor. Viktor 's ear pricked when he saw this, excitedly exclaiming that they could finally learn what was on the second floor. Claiming the stairs hey found themselves in a huge workshop. The workshop had 8 of the green liquid vats from downstairs. this time, indeed, of being obeque, they were transparent and floating in the green liquid, and were fresh dragon eggs. The tables were littered with more notes detailing ingredient lists and incubation times. All of them failed.

The group finally made their way to the final door on the first floor. Inside was another large room. On one side was a dwarven automaton, and on the other was a large almost alter. Many of the heating coils from the second room were affixed to a glass container. Inside was a golden dragon eye. The area around the heaters was incredibly cold, so cold that some areas had slight snow buildup.

Halfbie preached the automaton and stated, "Identify yourself and purpose" in ancient dwarven. The automaton did not respond in kind, simply stating something in another language, a language that only Drache recognised. It was Draconic. He relayed Halfbie's order, and the automaton replied "PROTECT_THE_EGG, KEEP_EGG_ WARM" in draconic.

Drache turned and asked if they should grab the egg since it was obviously important. Halfbie shot the idea down,, gesturing to the automation. "We don't need another fight; let's go back to the main room and try to get through the last door. We can always come back later"

The rest nodded as they joined Halfbie in the main atrium. Mordecai wondered why they hadn't just picked the lock. To which Halfbie tried to explain that the spell sealing the door probably stopped anyone from tampering with the locks. Mordecai insisted that someone should at least try, so they knelt and began picking the lock. Before they went, they moved the first pin, and they were sent flying back and jolted in pain.

Drache turned ot Halfbie and asked what they should do to get through the door. Halfbie thought for a moment before muttering "the invincible door fallacy".

"The invincible what?" Mordecai asked while rubbing their head.

"The invincible door fallacy," Halfbie said, "It states that a door may be invincible, but the walls holding the door surely are not... Drache, can you destroy the wall where the hinges attach to the door, please?"

Drache nodded and drew his waraxe, and with a powerful smack, he broke the hinge clear from the stone. The door still stood, so he hit the second one. Now that both hinges were destroyed, the door stayed in place, almost floating. Halfbie was just about to order Drache to break a hole through the wall when someone else interjected, "wait, Drache can you try opening the door?"

A confused Drache temporarily reached for the handle, and the door opened instantly as if it were unlocked. "er guys, was this door even locked?"

"It was," replied Mordecai, "to us, built everything's is focused around dragons here, I assume this door would also."

"Good spot Mordecai!" Halfbie said as they followed Drache through the door.

Viktor used Mending to fix the wall as best he could before joining the rest of the party. The door opened into a small, unadorned room with a single spiral staircase that only went down. Even from the top of the stiars they, they could feel the heat emanating from below. After a lengthy descent, the heat became nearly overpowering. The stairs ended in a long corridor, and, turning a corner, it opened into a giant cavern.

In the middle, where two adult red dragons were locked so tightly in chains and restraints, they were unable to move a muscle. Behind them, 4 large pipes of lava could be seen running along the walls of the cave before splitting off into various directions. near where the pipes entered, where 5 large automatons were handling a large pile of dragon eggs and moving them to a safer place.

The party immediately jumped into to try and save the dragons. Mordecai stepped forward and cast enlarge on one of the dragons, shrinking it to the point that the armour fell off its body. However, almost immediately, a blindingly loud alarm began ringing in their heads. Additionally, it was at this point that they all realised that part of the restraints was a floating device filled with what looked like needles. The machine was getting ready to fire.

Viktore cast Storm door and, with a crackle of thunder Viktor, launched over to the Dragon in an attempt to tackle it out of the way. However, in his rush, he miscalculated, and all of the needles stuck hard into Viktor, killing the man instantly. Seeing this, the rest of the party jumped into action. Halfbie was the first to arrive by using Misty Step. Having no potion on them or time to cast a healing spell, they used Spare the dying to stabilise Viktor's condition.

The rest caught up. Drache stood in the vanguard as the automatons slowly marched to the party. Drache tried to stop them by commanding them in draconic, but the automatons would not listen.

Their minds were all suddenly filled with a cry for help from the dragons. They asked for the scream to stop because it was too much to bear. Their tiers began to fall rapidly. Halfbie and Mordecai mordd immdially began searching for a source. Halfbie searched, and to the best of their abilities, all they could sense was a strange magical mass moving around the needle launchers. It was like some invincible create floated there waiting for the next move. Halfbie pointed this out to Mordecai.

Mordecai cast a message at the mass, and they sense a communication channel open with whatever it is.

"Oi reveal yourself" Mordecai commanded, but they received no response. Mordecai followed up be bomardbing the link with as many messages and thoughts as possible to annoy the being into responding.

Drache was ready to fight as soon as the being dropped their invisibility. eventually, the being revealed itself to be a very young girl, no older than 5 or 6. Drache was so ready to spring that his body did so automatically. He launched into an attack, halfway though tiot registered who he was attacking, and he stopped himself. Mordecai jumped in and cast Tasha's hideous laughter on the girls, and she fell to the ground in a fit of tears.

however the alarm was still ringing out in their heads, Drache took this opportunity to run to Victor's body and used his Lay on Hands ability to heal Viktor back to realive health. Halfbie cast Detect Magic in an effort to locate the second being in the room, since both dragons had a needlea needle device pointed at them. However, upon casting the spell, it was as if they had been flashbanged by magical interference. The dragons were giving off so much energy that it was overwhelming.

Viktor, now barely conscious, stands up, coughing blood as he does so. He looks at the girl on the floor and casts a banishment spell. In an instant, she disappeared. Using Drache's shouldered for support, he called out, "I have gotten rid of one of you, where is the other?! I will return you friend when you show yourself"

Suddenly, Viklotr felt a light tug at his sleeve as he saw a little boy who quietly asked, "please can you return my sister?"

"Get rid of the alarm first", Mordecai stated.

The boy raised a hand in the direction of the needles above the last Dragon, "give me back my sister now," Their hand was shaking now.

Halfbie stepped forward, with a quite furious expression enveloping their face. As they did so, a fireball began forming in their hand. The flame, emitting a powerful light and casting deep shadows over their face. "Stop it", they commanded, or you won't be seeing your sister again"

The rest of the party was shocked by Halfbie's line of approach, but before they could say anything, the boy twisted his wrist and aimed the needle at Halfbie. With a gaunt look, he said, "maybe the dragons werent the real evil" before firing. Halfbie was quick but not quick enough to dodge all of them, and their left side was punctured, killing them instantly.

Mordecai immediately stepped forward and tried to calm the child down. Viktor quickly cast cure wound on Halfbie and the boy disappears becoming invisable again.

"Hey i know we can't see you", Mordecai called out from the cave, "We're not going to do anything. We'll bring back your sister; we just need the alarm to stop, please!"

Viktor cast a quick Enchantment, and the sister reappeared in the same spot. The boy reappeared behind Mordecai, holding a needle. Seeing his sister, he ran to her, grabbed her, and disappeared again instantly.

Mordecai called out, "You guys are just kids, you shouldn't be in such a dangerous place. We're not going to hurt anymore. I didn't want to hurt you in the first place. Can we just talk?"

The two appeared before Mordecai, both holding needles like play swords. "Why are you here?!"

Mordecai takes off their crown and sitso n the floor, inviting the two to join them. "We saw something in need of our help, so we tried ot help them."

"This is our home, you came into our home?" they said.

"this cave is your home?" Viktor questioned.

"Where are you parents?" Mordecai asked.

They both looked down at the ground.

Mordecai's face softened, "I'm sorry, that's hard, it's hard being ripped away from your family. But why do this to the dragons? Did they do something to you?"

They both pointed at the automata still slowly approaching and said, "they made us do it"

"would you like our help escaping all of this?" Viktor asked.

"No we'll die"

"why" asked Viktor.

"we're already dead, you're here."

"well..." sighed Viktor, "what are your names?"

"Name?" said one, puzzled "Number 3442", the other said "Number 3443,"

Getting a better look at the two Viktor s, noted that they were wearing rags and looked almost elven. "I am Viktor, that is what people call me. This is Halfbie, Mordecai and Wurinn. We come from another place, and they run a nation," he invited the joiners to come back to the ofc.

"You don't understand, i said we can't go. I will die, we will die"

They confirmed that leaving the cave would result in them dying when, suddenly, an automaton managed to get close enough and raise its arm ready to strike. just as the blow was about to land, one of the isbling turned, and, with a quick flick of their wrist, it turned to dust.

The other then turned ot the Dragon and pointed, "We are them", and then pointed towards the sky "and also like them"

"You have lost me with that last one, do you mean to say you are gods?!" Viktor splurted out.

"if thats what you call them"

"interesting, why would you did if you left this place then?"

"our bodies are prone to illness, there is none stronger than us, but none weaker also"

"I used to know a half-elf. They struggled their entire lives with multiple afflictions, and they are trying to cure themselves through divine means."

"maybe she can help us"

"i did not say she..."

"Are you saying Shonni could help us?"

"we can take you to her...?" asked Mordecai.

"I don't know who she is, i know her because you know her"

"And why do you know what I know? Can you read my mind?"

"I am everywhere," said the boy before whispering something about the party caught.

"So, can you see that our intentions are good?"

"We know you want to kill and get money"

"We don't just want to get money..." Victor's voice trailed off.

"That one" and the girls pointed at Halfbie, "Their money, their plan"

Halfbie nodded, "finally someone gets it's!"

The boy then turned ot face Halfbie, "You know it's not as good as you think"

Halfbie's posture changed as their voice narrowed and became cold. Chenris spoke, "I am well aware, I will keep going nonetheless", before Halfbie returned to normal, seemingly unaware of what was said.

There was a long pause while no one knew what to say. Viktor broke the silence and decided that kids needed names, naming the boy Seer and the girl Myst. He explained that they may be some form of god, but that, first, they were individuals and therefore have merit and worth. The two were stunned for a moment before saying, "You have given us something, we will give you something... There are 3 more of us and they called us NG"

The realisation dawned on Halfbie and Viktor first, could NG stand for 'New Gods'? However, the children could neither confirm nor deny the theory, as they had never been referred to as anything other than New Gods. The two remind them of Victor's son, causing him to well with emotion slightly before casting Death ward on the two of them. He hoped that the spell might be enough to help them survive for just a little bit longer. However, the spell seemed to fizzle out into nothing, as if the Magic would not affect the two.

Watching them with a smile, Mordecai asked Seifer what their taken on the citation as. There was solemn silence in Mordecai's brain before they replied. "They'll grow up to be like the rest of them. Right now, they may be cute, but one day they'll be gods, and they'll cause nothing but pain and suffering. The best thing you could do is end it here"

The party then asked a question that had been on the top of all of their minds: how had they been created? Seer explained that some of the scientists apparently entered one of the gods' realms and drew blood. They then used that blood to create 'something else'. Unfortunately, the 2 had no idea which realm they had been to.

They then asked if they knew a person called Xekai, and they did not know who they were. They were aware of the name because the party knew him, but according to Myst, something like a shadow was over Xekai, stopping them from knowing about him. Viktor then invited them to search the party's minds to learn if they knew anyone in common. They said, "We know Halfbie... we know Viktor... we know Mordecai... we know Drache... we know chenris, we know Aidan... we know Renforth... we know Kelrin"

They asked who the last two names were, and Myst gestured towards the two dragons. It was at this point Mordecai realised that one was still in chains and began freeing them.

Viktor asked if there was anyone else they both knew, and Sure pointed out that they also knew Astra. They commented that she was nice and would often come down to give them sweets. They explained that she was a very small cog in a very large machine, so they did not hold it against her for keeping them captive.

"We try to fight the system", said Mordecai.

"You try, but you somehow became the system"

"History has a way of repating itself..." said Viktor

"Yes, but it repeats more than you think."

"Would you care to elaborate on that further?"

"no, we cannot step on his toes..."

"whose toes?" said Mordecai.

"It's his story to tell, not ours. You will find out soon, but not until the end"

The two are still hesitant to leave the cave at this point, so Mordecai extended their hand and said, "You should join us, a blaze of glory is always more exciting than sitting around in a cave."

The two looked at one another enough for armament before putting their small hands on top of Mordecai's. A smile stretched across his face, "You're lifespans maybe short, however, it's what you do with that that really matters"

"If you want us to come, then we will come."

The rest of the party joined their hands and cheered. Then Viktor said, "I have one final question... Can you tell us what Chenris is planning?"

There was a long pause before they said, "to tell, would ruin the adventure and Mordecai said it's more about the adventure than lifespans "

Mordecai and Drache smiled, shrugged and laughed.

"I will trust your judgement and leave it at that", Viktor said, giving up.

"you should always trust our judgment," they said, "We are better"

The two then explained that if they were to go, they would like to bring their siblings as well; if they didn't have a good amount of heat, they would die. The party agreed to help the other new gods. Then the two explained that they would get in the way, so they opened a golden portal to Blackwall. "We will meet with Steve, he will help us," said the Seer before they and the 2 dragons walked into Blackwall.

With the dragons gone, they saw on the far side of the cave, where all the pipes entered the room, a large valve that looked like it shut off the lava. however if they did that, then the other new gods would die. Halfbie clicked in the air before gutting out the tomb of unfinished stories and began rewriting that event. He wrote: When Halfbie clicked their fingers, Xekai appeared and helped move the other eggs to a comfortable, warm and safe place for them to hatch. Xekai then appeared from a purple portal. "You can not keep messing with the timeline when you can be bothered to fix something!"

He then explained that the eggs could hatch quickly if Drache took them to the peak he had seen when he drank the green liquid upstairs. He then disappeared, but not before giving Halfbie a fed-up look.

They all agreed to find each egg and help it hatch. They soon returned to the R&D facility and found the golden egg they had earlier. Drache broke the glass while Halfbie bottled some of the liquid. With the egg in hand, Drache said "Geronimo!" before taking a swig of the liquid.

Drache opened his eyes to find that he was back at the top of the mountain, facing the same golden Dragon as before. however this time, the Dragon welcomed the dragonborn and the egg. Suddenly, time started to race by as he watched the egg hatch into a small girl who rapidly grew to be around the age of 5, similar to Seer and Myst.

Once she reached this age, time slowed to a normal pace, and the Golden Dragon thanked Drache for helping their kind. The next time he blinked Drache was back in the fort with the girl in his arms.

Initially she would not speak, but after Viktor named her 'Cas', she suddenly touched his face and psychically said, "I am Cas - destroyer of worlds, bow before me!" Viktor panicked and tried to tell her no, that wasn't right, "no, you're... the bringer of comedy!!" She gave her best evil laugh, which sounded more like a giggle than a laugh. She then grabbed Halfbie and said, "I am Cas, destroyer of worlds and... bringer of comedy. Bow before your master!" Halfbie gave a mock bow before a golden portal opened. On the other side were Seer and Myst, waving and inviting her over.

With one child reduced, the party got ready to find the next one. Looking at their map, Halfbie pointed to the closest one, saying, "I guess this is our next stop, It's never simple is it?!"
